About Asbury Design
Steven Asbury is a former award-winning page-one and features designer for the 125,000-circulation News Tribune in Tacoma, Washington. While at the paper, he led the conversion to broadsheet and redesign of The News Tribune’s features section. His design work has also appeared in The Oregonian and the Springfield (Oregon) News. Most recently, Steven was the consultant on the redesign of Eugene Magazine and Open for Business magazine. You can see some of Steven’s publication design work here.
Steven currently teaches newspaper design at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication. He has led several newspaper design workshops and has been a panelist and speaker at Society for News Design Quick Courses.
In college, Steven was the editor of the UO’s Oregon Daily Emerald in 1997 where his redesign work lead the paper to become the best designed student newspaper in the nation as judged by the Society for Newspaper Design and earned him the runner-up position in SND’s national College Designer of the Year competition.
